Gulf County School District serves approximately 2,000 students in Port St. Joe, Wewahitchka, and surrounding communities on the Gulf of Mexico. Gulf County is a small coastal district encompassing Port St. Joe and Wewahitchka on the eastern Panhandle. The district was significantly impacted by Hurricane Michael in 2018 and has since rebuilt. The area is known for Cape San Blas and the pristine St. Joseph Peninsula.
